6.26.24 - The patience of God
Good morning ,
Patience is probably one of the most difficult things for most of us. When we want something we want it now. We don't want to wait on anyone and we will go to the extreme to get what we need as quickly as possible.
I'm currently participating in a woman's bible study and we are studying the story of Gideon. This last time we gathered we talked about God's patience for us.
I often think about my own level of patience. While I have much more patience now as a mom, wife and business owner, I am still a big work in progress. It never dawned on me to think of God's level of patience for me (or the world).
In the story of Gideon (Judges chapter 6-8) you see how patient God is with Gideon. Gideon questions God and even asks God for signs to confirm it's really him and to make sure he is hearing God correctly. I don't know about you but this has been me several times in my life.
What really got me is once God confirmed it was him and confirmed that yes he was indeed going to save Israel through Gideon, he was still worried. Can we blame him? His army went from 32,000 down to 300 against the Midianites. This is the part that stood out to me. God told Gideon to go down to the camp to listen to what they were saying and if was afraid he could bring his servant, Purah, to go with him. Gideon must have been so excited to bring someone with him so he didn't have to go alone.
Talk about a patient and kind God.
God didn't yell at Gideon for questioning him or asking for clarification. He knew Gideon was still worried and knew he needed some "extra" encouragement to complete his assignment.
God knows us better than we know ourselves. He knew us before we ever made it out of the womb.
After Gideon went down and listened in on the camp with Purah, he was ready to go!
I thank God for all the patience he has had with me when I was slow to understand. Slow to have faith. Slow to pray. Slow to obey. The list goes on.
While our emotions are all over the place, God is not. He doesn't change who he is and for that I am in awe.
Today think about how patient God has been with you. God is good. God is faithful even when we aren't. God has patience for you even when you are impatient.
I appreciate you being a part of my community. It's always more than skin care :)
