9.4.24 - What’s the motive?
Good morning ,
Last week I invited you to join me in challenging ourselves to immediately pray when worry sets in. It went pretty well for me, but how did it go for you?
Today I want to share with you a piece from a book I just finished reading, Mantled for Greatness by Joshua Giles. This book helped me shift my mindset around some of the ideas and goals I have. Joshua Giles writes:
"We desire to receive love and gratitude, and there's nothing wrong with that. Receiving praise from people and pleasing people cannot be our initial or central motive. It should always be about God. when our hearts are in the right place, it's His pleasure to return to us what we have sown."
This stuck out to me because it's something I have shared with you that I struggle with as a business owner. But it's not just about business. It's about doing things in life to please God rather than get credit.
It's about the heart. Where is your heart? Are you doing awesome things and then giving glory to God first, or are you doing awesome things and putting the praise you receive above giving God praise? Sure, it feels good to be told how great we are, but we are not great in our own strength. We are great because of the Lord.
I constantly have to check myself when I post. Am I posting for likes or posting to help others through the gifts God has given me?
Am I relying on my own wisdom to make money or surrendering to God and His purpose and plan for me?
Am I sharing to get a "Congratulations" or because I want everyone to know God is good and he is the reason for every good thing you see in my life.
This is hard, but we have the Holy Spirit to help us. Be sensitive to the convictions you feel and ask God to help you overcome.
A few months ago I was (once again) relying on God & my Facebook Ads to get me to the next level. For some reason I didn't think God could handle the marketing so I was taking matters in my own hands (again smh). So much money was being spent with little return. I got so convicted about them ads that I just turned everything off. I wish I could sit here and tell you that the next week God brought in hundreds of new customers and sales sky rocketed but that didn't happen. Instead God has given me more vision and made it crystal clear that what I'm doing is more than skin care. I was trying to box me in and God is opening doors.
I want to ask you the next time you do or share something, ask yourself "what's the motive"? It's okay to be complimented but let's make sure that we are giving credit FIRST to our creator.
I appreciate you being a part of my community. It's always more than skin care :)
If this email has helped you please share it with someone you know.
Love,
Danielle
